A Truly Green Solution for Insulating Bare Piping Components on Indoor Steam and Hot Water Distribution Systems
Auburn Manufacturing, Inc. (AMI), a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of textile products for extreme temperature industrial applications, has introduced a new, low-cost solution for insulating bare piping components on steam and hot water distribution systems < 500°F. The new patent pending Ever Green® Cut ’n Wrap™ Insulation Kits contain everything that’s needed for quick and easy on-site fabrication of removable/resusable insulation blankets.

AMI’s new Ever Green Cut ’n Wrap Insulation Kits are ideal for insulating bare piping components on indoor steam and hot water distribution systems. Each kit contains a 4'x8' modularized blanket rated to 500°F and rolls of double sided hook and loop fastener making on-site fabrication of removable/reusable insulation blankets quick and easy. |

Cut. Wrap. Strap. AMI’s new Ever Green Cut ’n Wrap is that easy. Simply measure and cut the insulated material to size, wrap the exposed valve or fitting and secure with the self-sealing hook and loop fastener. |
“While piping in hot water and steam distribution systems is generally insulated, the fittings are not and the result is significant and unnecessary heat loss,” explained Leonard. “Facility engineers are aware of the heat loss associated with bare piping components but insulating them is a time-consuming, difficult and costly endeavor. We developed Cut ’n Wrap to be simple to work with and easy to install. No special tools are required – just a utility knife and stapler.”
“Whether a facility maintenance engineer or an insulation contractor, having the ability to site-fabricate insulation blankets benefits everybody – especially the end user,” said Kathie Leonard, President and CEO of AMI. “Cut ’n Wrap can reduce heat loss by at least 85%, and data from recent projects has shown a reduction in mechanical room temperatures by as much as 20°F. The energy savings are immediate and payback is usually less than 1 year.”
Each Cut ’n Wrap Kit contains a 4 ft. x 8 ft. modularized insulation blanket rated to 500°F, and rolls of double sided hook and loop fastener. “You simply measure and cut the insulated material to size, wrap the exposed valve or fitting and secure with the self-sealing hook and loop fastener,” said Leonard. “Installation takes only several minutes per component. And, since they are reusable, Cut ’n Wrap blankets are ideal for those valves and other fittings that require periodic maintenance or inspection.”
AMI, which has a 30-year history as a maker of textiles used in custom-made removable flange and valve insulation pads, developed Cut ’n Wrap in response to the need for an easy-to-use, cost-effective insulation blanket that could save energy. Prior to formally introducing the Cut ’n Wrap Insulation Kits to the market, AMI conducted a number of demonstration projects to validate the technology behind the product. Starting with standard Cut ’n Wrap insulation kits, the blankets were fabricated on-site and installed on heat distribution piping components in a number of municipal buildings, universities, and health care facilities in the U.S. “The projects were highly successful,” said Leonard. “The test data showed that Cut ’n Wrap immediately increased energy efficiency, improved worker health and safety, and reduced greenhouse gases by up to 1,000 lbs/sq.ft/yr.”
